Background

I received my master’s and doctorate degrees in counseling psychology from Colorado State University. I have significant experience working with adults, adolescents, and their families in residential, inpatient and outpatient settings, treating a variety of psychological issues.

Throughout my graduate training, I focused my research and clinical practice on working with eating disorders and self-harm. Upon completion of my degrees, I finished a fellowship focused on eating disorder treatment in a residential setting, and continued to work in the inpatient and residential setting over the next few years, providing a strong base in understanding and supporting the physiological progress needed for full recovery from an eating disorder. In 2008, I opened my private practice and have treated eating disorders almost solely in the outpatient setting also. In my experience, outpatient treatment for an eating disorder, even severe ones, can be more effective as the transition from a higher level of care back home is not necessary. Although I enjoyed working at higher levels of care, and appreciate the support these settings can provide, I continue to provide outpatient care because I have seen it to be very effective in facilitating full recovery.

In 2020, I relocated to California to support my husband in a job change. However, I have maintained my private practice in Utah, thanks to telehealth being more widely accepted. I continue to work with Utah-based nutritionists and physicians, and collaborate weekly with these providers. At this time, I have no plans to transition my practice to California. Although I am located here, I lived in Utah for 17 years and continue to maintain awareness of local situations and events in order to provide the best care to my clients.
